Frequently Asked Questions

What is a CFP®?

As a Certified Financial Planner™, Julie has demonstrated expert knowledge across a broad range of financial planning topics. The CFP® designation is the recognized standard of excellence and ethics for personal financial planning.

What is an independent RIA?

Registered investment advisors are distinct from brokers: RIAs sell advice, while brokers sell investments and other products. Earning commissions from product sales opens the door to potential conflicts of interest. Independent RIAs are unaffiliated with larger firms and so do not have a financial agenda beyond their own success and that of their clients.

What is a fiduciary?

Fiduciaries are legally responsible for acting solely in your best interests. Many advisors are not fiduciaries; Financial Compass is among those that are.

What is a Fee-Only Financial Advisor?

Fee-only advisors are distinct from those who earn sales commissions for part of all of their business. Because we earn fees for advice—not for product sales—we do not face the conflict of interest that brokers do. Please note that fee-based is different than fee-only, in that fee-based advisors typically collect a fee in addition to commission or other compensation. Julie is a fee-only advisor.

Where are my investments held?

Our clients’ assets are custodies at Pershing LLC or Altruist LLC, which provides brokerage and custody services to Independent Registered Investment Advisors and their clients. We do not have direct access to our clients’ money.

What do I bring to my first meeting?

Having recent investment statements, as well as a copy of your tax return will help us get grounded. Additionally, it is a good idea to have in mind some of your goals. If you have online access to your investments, I may ask you to look them up live, so knowing how to log in is helpful.

What can I expect from our first meeting?

Our first meeting is really an opportunity for us to get to know one another, and will take 45-60 minutes. We will discuss your current situation and gather as many numbers and facts as well can. We will spend time discussing your goals, in terms of needs, wants, and wishes, as well as begin to understand what aspects of your financial life concern you the most. If you would like to get started, at the end of the meeting we will sign a client services agreement and I will collect your deposit. If you are not ready, that’s OK! Take some time to reflect on the engagement. I will be here when you are ready.

Where should I park at your office?

Haddonfield: The office is adjacent to the pubic lot accessible via Tanner Street. There also may be limited street parking out front. All parking is metered during business hours.
Newtown: Ample free parking is available
Center City: metered street parking only

What happens after I complete a plan?

Do you have male clients?

Yes, I do. While I have a unique understanding of women's issues, some of my favorite peoople on earth are men! A common thread with these clients is that they want to make sure that they choose an advisor a woman in thier life- be it thier mother, sister, daughter or wife- is comfortable with and can develop a relationship with.

How does financial planning work?

At our initial meeting, I gather much of the data needed to complete your plan. I begin working on your plan and will follow up for any additional information required. For the Retirement Roadmap plan, we schedule 2 90 minute delivery meetings. For the full Comprehensive plan, we will schedule 3 90 minute meetings.

At our delivery meetings, we work through each area of your plan. Options and outcomes will be illustrated as relates to each of your goals. You will be given online access to your plan and written recommendations within each area.
